The Pilot Crisis in the U.S.: A Golden Opportunity for Latinos

Airlines talk about retirements and hiring. That is not the same as a guaranteed seat for a student from Mexico, Colombia, or Ecuador. Alpha does not publish a headcount, a bonus, or a salary on this page. Read the operator’s own notices if you want their numbers.

What people usually mean by “shortage”

The usual story is three things, none of which we will quantify here:

• Mandatory retirement at 65 for airline transport pilots in the United States is a real rule. How many seats that empties this year is an industry estimate, not our figure.
• Some operators have ordered aircraft and talked about crew pipelines. That is their plan, not yours.
• Pay moves. We will not quote a 40% rise. If pay is why you are training, verify the number with the airline.

What that does — and does not — mean if you train in Miami, Florida

An FAA certificate is a U.S. credential. Flying with Alpha is at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) in the Miami metro. It does not convert itself in your country, and it does not hire you.

• Home-country airlines decide what they value. We will not rank you “ahead of local candidates” or name a preferred airline.
• Conversion of an FAA certificate is that authority’s process — not almost automatic, and not easier “in many countries” because a blog said so.

Hiring rises and falls. There is no “never been a better time” we can sign. Ask for a training plan, not a forecast.
